Monument to the Victims
of the Katyn Massacre
The monument consists of two oblong granite blocks symbolizing
mass graves of Polish officers and policemen murdered by NKVD
in 1940.

On the highest pedestal there is a figure of the Angel of Death.
In front of it, between symbolic
graves, there is a figure of Katyń Pieta - the Matron of the Homeland
despairing over a body of a murdered
prisoner of war. On the granite
walls of the graves, the names of the prisoner-of-war camps are inscribed:
Kozelsk, Ostashkov, Starobelsk
(south), and places of mass murders:
Katyń, Mednoye, Kharkiv (north). The author of the monument is Tadeusz
Tchórzewski, a sculptor and
medalist from Warsaw.
The monument was ceremonially
unveiled on 22nd of October,
2000.
